Holiday cactus, also called Christmas cactus, are favorites for brightening indoor spaces during the winter months. These popular houseplants respond to shorter days by developing flower buds often around Christmastime. Holiday cacti are available in an array of flower colors, including cheerful yellow, and can live for decades, getting larger and more spectacular as the years go by. Christmas cactus are easy to grow, but have different growing needs than traditional cactus plants. They grow best when they receive indirect sunlight and are grown in well-drained soil. They require more water than traditional cactus, sometimes a few times a week. When watering, water thoroughly and then let the soil dry out between watering.
